This first home received a National Green Building Bronze Ccertification and a Home Energy Rating (HERs) of -2. HERs is an energy efficiency rating on a scale of 0 to 100 with 100 being a code-built home and 0 being the most energy efficient home. Negative 2 classifies that this home as not only net-zero but also negative net-zero which means the home will produce more energy than it consumes.
The home also has a Carbon Index Rating of -2. This home will have an Annual C02 reduction of 12.7 tons and an annual energy savings of $3,835, relative to an average US home.
Because the house will produce as much or more energy than it consumes, there will be no utility bills other than the cost of being connected to the grid.
